New North Face gear

Yes, it's finally started arriving!

First off is the new "Aurora" 100 weight Polartec full zip fleece (see right in pink). With lovely detailing all round, stretchy side panels and cuffs and a great warmth to weight ratio, function and fashion are both covered in this lovely fleece. Also available in black.

Also in the ladies fleeces is the new "Sky Trail" tka 100 weight fleece. Once again this is full zip as many of you have been asking for the 100 weight fleeces with a full zip - well here they are. The "Sky Trail" has lovely stretchy thumb loop cuffs and has a very nuice fitted shape to it. Available in bright pink or black.

We have new colours in the fantastic "Upland" Jacket in both mens and womens as well as some new colours in our old favourite, the "Resolve" jacket. Both of these jackets are extremely good value, coming in at €135 and €100 respectively, both are very good waterproof shells. with the upland just having a tougher, more abrasion resistant outer fabric.

We also have a new coolmax ladies baselayer (below). The fabric of this piece feels very nice, like a soft animal, maybe a chinchilla.

And last but by no means least, a new, improved "Hedgehog" shoe in both Mens and Womens. The looks are the same but with new colours, an improved tread design and a new heel design (to increase snugness around the heel) the hedgehog is better than ever. I would love to show you a pic of it but it's so new there aren't any available yet!

Anyhoooo that's that for now so enjoy and see you soon.

I recently wrote a short blog on the jacket you see on the right and was unable to find a picture showing just how beautiful the colour is.

Anyway, i found two beautiful looking boys to wear the jacket for me and they let me take photos of them as well (as long as i took them out to buy some sweets later on). One of the boys was handsome, as you can see and the other one had a very hairy face and a massive hat on to hide his dome like head.

So that's that, the jackets great, the boys are lovely and we had a real nice time.

The handsome one is still single for some reason, i don't know why.

mmmmm..lovely.

Berghaus mens fleece vests.

Finally back in stock!

This item has been one of the most frequently requested over the past month or so so we are chuffed to have them back in. It's one of the most practical every day pieces of kit that we stock and anyone that has owned one will know how much use they get.

Anyway, there's not much to say about the spectrum fleece vest other than it's great quality, decently priced and everyone should own one. Oh and they are only €45.

cheers

Berghaus womens softshell trousers

Hi de ho as one of my favourite tv characters would say.

Today we are looking at the womens "Ortler" pant, a fantastic lightweight softshell trouser.

These are a 3 season, water repellent trouser that have great ventilation zips on the legs, not that you'll need them very often as these trousers are completely breathable, virtually windproof and dry extremely fast if they do get wet. They come in a variety of leg lengths and look very smart on.
There's really not much else to say - they are great trousers for all year round use.

Smartwool merino back in stock!

We have smartwool merino back in stock - merino wool is superb stuff. Along with softshell it's my favourite material in outdoor clothing - I'm not going to go into all the details of why as most of you probably already know and if you don't then you'll just have to come in to see it and find out from us why it is so good.

Anyway, we have mens (tops and leggings) and womens (tops only at the mo) in and they are all lovely.

mmmmmm..merino.

a bientot my sheep loving friends.

HEY THE BERGHAUS NECK GAITERS AND TRESPASS NECK GAITERS CAME BACK INTO STOCK.

HERE IS ANDY AGAIN............ SPORTING HIS FAVOURITE ONE.

BALACLAVA'S BACK IN STOCK

HEY, FANTASTIC NEWS WE ARE AFTER GETTING BALACLAVA'S BACK INTO STOCK.

SO ANDY MET UP WITH SOME OF HIS HIDDEN FACED FRIENDS. LUCKY FOR HIM WE GOT THE BALACLAVA'S BACK IN STOCK. THEY HAD TEA AND CAKE AFTER AND HAD A REALLY FUN TIME I THINK HE SAID THEY PLAYED TOUCH RUGBY. WHICH IS NICE

Berghaus special offers!

I'll get straight to it - 3 pieces of lovely kit from Berghaus and at 1960's prices.

Ladies "Twister" softshell jacket.

Should be €120, now €80.

If you've not yet tried softshell, you really should - highly water repellent, windproof and properly breathable - unless it's hammering down this is all you will need to keep you dry, warm and not a hint of clammyness (yes, that is a real word).

Mens "High Trails" performance shell jacket.

Was €300, now only €200.

Unfortunately i can't find an image of the colour we have but it's a very nice dark red with lighter red panels under the arms (kind of like the picture on the right but in reverse).

Gore Tex Performance shell with the Gore-Tex Extreme wet weather guarantee, this jacket is built for the very worst conditions. With 4 external pockets and an additional internal map pocket (well it's tucked under the storm flap but easy to access without actually undoing your main zip) there's plenty of storage space too.

A double storm flap to cover the main zip and a really nice wired peak in the roll-away hood top this jacket off nicely. It is also compatible with a zip in fleece/softshell/insulated jacket so makes an ideal all year round piece of kit.

And to finish an old favourite, the spectrum half zip micro fleece in a classic navy and grey. What's to say, it's a lightweight fleece with a zip - keeps you warm without weighing much and it packs up nice and small. And it's been doing this job well for years.

Oh yeah and it's also reduced - from €45 to €36!

do zobaczenia pozniej moi przyjaciele :-)

Craghoppers Kiwi stretch trousers

PRICE DROP!
were:€55 now only:€40

Even though I've only had my pair of these for about 2 weeks now, i thought it was time for quick review.

First off, these trousers are seriously comfortable - the material is very lightweight yet you feel virtually no wind through them, even when it's blowing a gale - they actually feel like a lightweight softshell (even though technically they are not) and do a decent enough job of repelling a reasonable amount of drizzle as well.

The best thing about them though is the stretch - they really do stretch, even when my fat backside squats down, there is plenty of stretch available to deal with it - this really makes a difference when you need to put a foot up quite high (and we all know how frequent this is going up -hill or doing a bit of scrambling). With 2 zipped hand pockets, 1 zipped rear pocket and a sizeable cargo pocket there is plenty of space for sausages/maps/bacon etc.

They are also very fast drying and have UP40 sun protection. All in all a flippin great pair of trousers for general hillwalking and casual/travelling purposes too.

That's about all that needs to be said about these - come and check them out.

cheers
mr hutch

Mont Blanc Winter ascent

Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in western Europe at 4810m. It is surrounded on all sides by vast glaciers that reach out to the valleys below. The mountain and the massif that shields its gleaming white dome is the most important mountain upland in the history of Alpinism. It captured the imagination of the worlds best climbers and to date holds the greatest concentration of alpine routes in the world.

Every year people are attracted to the peak that is Mont Blanc, not because of its aesthetic shape, but its height. Hunderds make the pilgrimage to the summit, in some cases waiting in queue to reach the top. For me this detracts from the mountain experience. To climb Mont Blanc in winter would be a worthy challenge. So the plan was put together to get a strong group of lads that where realistic and ambitous. The team would consist of Alex,Lucas,Tomek and myself. Three Polish and one Irishman. Great combination!

We would carry all supplies up the mountain, in all our backpacks combined would weigh about 120kgs. One could call the trip a mini expedition of sorts. The plan was to camp our way to the top in around four to five days. We climbed the Gouter ridge route, which is by far the most popular way of ascent in the summer. We did it in four and half with three days coming down. The weather was perfect for the whole trip and we had blue skies and starry nights. Due to such conditions the temperature plummeted to well below -30 once above the Gouter hut. Climbing in such temperatures proved challenging. Simple tasks like using zips and buttons became ordeals not to mention going to the toilet!

Each morning started with several teas and museli. This was followed by heating ones boots and socks. The final night was spent in the Vallot hut where the temperature dropped to -37.

The summit day consisted of climbing the Bosses ridge. On one side France the other Italy. Two very proud nations sharing a very noble massif. The summit views were amazing, one could see from the Bernese Oberland to the Ecrins Massif almost the full span of the northern Alps!

The trip was a success because it was well planned and we had a good solid team. The weather was on our side from the start. Good humour was our main form of communication and we always carried the idea that the summit would be a bonus rather then fact!

Go on the boys!
