Waterproof jackets in longer length.

One thing that we get many requests for (and sometimes struggle to get enough stock of as they sell so fast when they do come in!) is good waterproof jackets in a longer length. Well right now we have 2 great jackets in both mens and womens with that extra bit of length you are looking for.

First off, the "Jura GTX" - This is available in both mens and womens (womens being a lovely 2-tone red). Super waterproof, super tough hillwalking jacket guaranteed to keep you dry even on the worst days. With three external zipped pockets including one sternum map pocket and a zipped inner pocket perfect for a GPS or anything else you should care to fill it with. With a drawcord at waist and hem, lovely foldaway hood with a good peak on it and two way front zipper with double storm flap, you are ready to brave the worst of the elements. this jacket is also zip in fleece compatible. We have done all we can to keep the price of this and other jackets as low as possible and I reckon that at €250 this is one hell of a jacket for that kind of money.

Next up is the Mens "Montana" jacket.

This jacket uses Lowe Alpine's own "Triplepoint XC" waterproof fabric - Double layered for increased waterproofing and still has great breathability. As with the Jura, the Montana has two external hip pockets, a sternum map pocket and one internal pocket. A front flap with double storm flaps and concealed metal snap closure gives good protection and once again, we have a two way zip and internal zip for attaching a fleece or softshell. A foldaway hood with good peak finishes off this jacket nicely and at only €155 it's a steal.

Next up is the womens Berghaus "Aura" jacket - 2 layer Gore-Tex
Pro Shell to keep you dry no matter how bad the weather gets - It has Hip, chest and map pockets and a zipped internal pocket, double storm flaps and a really good roll-away hood. Add to that the shouder and hip reinforcements to protect these vulnerable areas and you have a jacket that is built to last as well as perform. It also looks good and from only €230 (we have some reduced and some not), another absolute steal! - Stocks on this model are lower than the Lowe Alpine models above though so you better get a move on if this is the jacket that takes your fancy.
Once again i must bid you farewell my any weather friends. And remember, walking ni the rain is good for the soul (if not the perm).

GoLite Peak Review

Hi Folks,

I've been using the GoLite Peak bag for a few months now and I figure it's about time I do a review of it.

Firstly, the facts...
GoLite are an American brand who's products are designed with weight and the environment in mind.
The Peak is made from recycled nylon and Dyneema. In addition to the kudos for using recycled material the use of Dyneema makes this bag seriously tough (Dyneema is 15 x stronger than steel !). Thanks to it's no nonsense design and the materials used, this bag is phenomenally light. It weighs only 765 Grams! Size wise, it has a cavernous 38 litre volume.
Now, the practical bit...
At first this bag was used as a city bag and a college bag. It has a great compression system which allowed me too make the bag a practical size for a few college books, a rain jacket and a spot of lunch.
The Peak has a nice roll top design which makes the bag quite weather proof and increase the durability as there is no main zip to strain. I got lots of remarks on it's funky electric blue colour.

Then came the real test...
We were heading on an over-night wild camping trip in Kerry. As I sorted through my bag collection (sad but true) I figured I might as well put the GoLite through it's paces.
The large front pocket swallowed up my Trangia, fuel, hammock, tarp and gloves.
The main bag then devoured my Thermarest, sleeping bag, spare clothes, lots of food and after all that there was even room left for a few beverages.
The two mesh side pockets each held a 2 litre bottle of water and the hip-belt pockets took my insect repellent, head torch, matches and suncream.
As the second day of our trip involved some canoeing I attached my buoyancy aid to some of the many straps and loops on the outside.

Was it comfortable with all the gear?
In short yes. Actually, it was great. I've grown accustomed to bags with rigid internal frames and thus was a bit weary of the Peak as it has a flexible foam back pad. As soon as I put it on my worries vanished, it felt great. It was supportive but allowed me to move freely. As an added bonus I was able to pull out the foam back pad and use it as a seat in the camp and the canoe.

Final thoughts...
The GoLite Peak is a great do-it-all bag that's tough enough to stand up to years of abuse and as a bonus, it comes with a clean environment conscience.
Some might question it's €100 price tag but this is a seriously tough bag suitable for all uses including alpine use and it's been produced as ethically as possible, which in my books makes it money well spent.
Till next time I get some new gear, I bid you adieu.

Kids clothing and camping kit - Now in.

Hey kids, it's time to give your parents a kick up the old proverbial and get them to buy you some camping gear.

Want a cool sleeping bag for only €20? - got it.

Want one of the bags to be able to shrink while you are younger and then grow when you do? - Got it.

Vango Wilderness convertible - A great idea.

Want a decent waterproof jacket and trousers? - got it.

Above are the Boys "Topspeed" jacket and the girls "Sparkler" jacket - both waterproof and only€25.

To the right is the lightweight "packaway" junior waterproof trousers - From age 3-4 through to those that will fit 15-16 year olds. Only €10!

Like a softshell so you can look cool and not be fussed if it rains a bit? - Yeah, we got that too.

And the finest piece in the collection, the kids puddle suit - before you ask, no, they don't come in adult sizes.
I really want one.
And with that I bid you farewell once more - I'm off to make myself an adult size puddle suit replica.

Super tasty packable food. Reduced by 25-30%!

On this weeks menu we have some fabulous dishes for you and the added bonus is that they pack up as small as a bag of crisps and taste like something out of Gordon Ramsays kitchen (just without the foul language and botox). All you need to do is add water, heat it up and voila, haute cuisine wherever you may be.

The menu is as follows:

Chicken tikka masala - Quite fruity for a tikka masala, with onion notes and a whiff of rice - Oh, that's the rice cooking next to it, sorry.

Spicy vegetable rigatoni - Italian heaven! - the smell of spices, vegetable and rigatoni will do wonders for your love life.

Meatballs and pasta in a tomato sauce - Once again the Italians come up trumps with a simple but effective combination of meat, pasta and squashed tomatoes - mamma mia!

Chicken Dopiaza - I'm getting chicken....with a hint of onion, tomato and coriander...mmmm and is that garlic? - ooh la la as they say in India.

Vegetable curry - all the joy of curry without the feeling of guilt that anials had to die just so you could stuff your face.

Pilau rice - Close friend of the curry, one without the other is like cheese without toast.

Beans and sausages in tomato sauce - mmmmmmmmmmmmm - nothing else to say here.

Chocolate pudding - Last but by no means least, this humble yet widely loved chocolate dessert is the champion without ego, the monkey in a hat, the toast and peanut butter of the dessert world - often challenged, never beaten.

So now these beauties are reduced by 25-30%, there's nothing to stop you - From only €4!

Bon appetit my little munchers.

6 man tent only €180!!

Whether you are going on a family camping trip, checking out the sights and sounds of the electric picnic or just like me like a lot of space in your tent, the Gelert Cadiz is the perfect tent at the perfect price (well, it would be better if it was free but we have to eat so we are just selling it as cheaply as we can).

With 2 seperate sleeping areas and the option of removing the smaller bedroom to create an even bigger area for eating, playing cards or just relaxing, the cadiz gives you the choice to set this tent up as you prefer.
It's also seriously waterproof with a hydrostatic head of 3000ml (that's very waterproof for those of you that can't be doing with technical jargon) so no worries even if you are heading off for a couple of weeks and it rains hard every day - You just enjoy the space inside and hone your poker or yahtzee skills.
So all in all, a great tent at a great price - We also have all of the other bits and bobs you need for a comfy trip so pop in and see us and how lovely we are.
a bientot my large tent desiring friends.
