North Face Quilted Resolve Jacket

It's that time of year when we hear the words "waterproof" and "warm" in the same sentence more often than usual in the shop. To satsify this request, we have more clothing that covers both these bases than ever before.

For today though, we will just be looking at The North Face Resolve insulated jacket. For many years the Resolve has been a big favourite with both staff and customers alike as for less than a hundred euros you were/are getting a great lightweight, durable waterproof that kept you really dry.

Now that jacket has a big brother and sister with insulation so you get the best of both worlds - With The North Face's own "Heatseeker" insulation which has a high warmth to weight ratio and is wind resistant, fast drying and highly breathable to boot; This jacket is an absolute steal at only €120.

Add to that the same durable ripstop Hy-Vent waterproof outer shell, brushed collar lining and sealed seams and you have a great winter waterproof jacket.

Moving Everest!

Oh boy do we have a surprise for you this month.

As you probably recognise, in the photo right is the Hillary step on mount Everest. This is exactly the point at which we will make our first incision. What??!!! I hear you say, Incision??!!! - Yes, that's right - We will be chopping off the top 100ft (approximately) of the great mountain and bringing it back to Cork where it belongs.

Obviously this is not a job for novices so we recruited two of the best in the rock chopping/sawing business, Sam and Dave of "Massive Choppers Ltd" (pictured below in training for the Everest mission). Sam has personally designed and built one of the largest hand held metal saws ever made especially for our needs (it's about twice the size of the one in the photo below so it's massive!)

I won't go into too much detail but as you would expect, we can't just turn up with a junior hacksaw and start working away - so we will be putting up some scaffolding on each side of the mountain to allow us to move the saw back and forth and cut into the rock. Without that, this would be a much tougher mission. Once we have it cut through, it will be lifted by helicopter and flown direct to my house in East Cork (location being kept secret for now).

I have drawn up a visual below of what it will look like when the scaffold is up an sawing begins.

Once we have the summit safe and sound in Cork we will let you know but we expect to be back in about a week or so, providing we won't have to change saw blades half way through or anything like that.

Anyway, we'll let you know when it's ready and we will be running guided walks around and up the summit for only €2.

THE NEW NORTH FACE MASSIF DOWN JACKET

THIS AS YOU CAN SEE IS BRIAN HE IS WEARING THE NEWEST OF NEW 700 DOWN FILLED JACKET. I MUST SAY IT IS A SWEET JACKET.

IT HAS A WATER REPELLANT FINISH. NOTE (THIS DOES NOT MEAN ITS WATERPROOF).

THE NICEST THING ABOUT THIS JACKET IS THAT THE PANELS ARE STITCHED NEARER TO EACH OTHER, THIS GIVES YOU A MORE COMFY FIT AND YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE THE MICHELIN MAN. THE MORE FITTED CUT COMPARED TO THE NUPTSE I FIND IS A NICER FIT. THE YELLOW ON THE ZIPS AND THE INNER LINNING REALLY MAKE THE JACKET STAND OUT AS A MUST HAVE THIS WINTER.

New Meindl Shoes

Good afternoon all - Well it's raining hard again and has been for the past few days so i guess it's time for waterproof shoes.

With that being the case, we have just received stock of the Meindl Respond XCR, a lovely looking shoe made to the high standards that you would expect from Meindl.

With Gore-Tex to keep you dry, Contragrip sole for great grip even when it's really wet (it's the same stuff they use on Salomon trail running shoes so it has been proven over many years) and a Meindl air active footbed for immediate and long lasting comfort, This is a very comfortable and durable shoe. We've not yet had a chance to test it extensively but the fit is particularly good, with plenty of room in the toe box but with a good secure fit in the heel and instep/arch area.

So it does the job performance wise and it also looks very nice too, as you can see from the pictures above and right. In fact, it's a slightly more modern look from Meindl and we think it works well.

So come in and give a pair a try and see what you think.
